Unconditional Love

We as humans don’t really understand unconditional love. The biggest reason for this is that from childhood through our lives journey we experience that we need to do something to earn love and respect from other people. It is seldom that children grow up in a household where they experience unconditional love. It is not anybody’s fault. It is how parents had experience live and how they pass it on to their children.

When we as children don’t receive unconditional love, we don’t know how to express love to others. That is also the main reason for so many broken relationships. When we can get to the point where we break this vicious circle, the world would be a better place. Unfortunately, we live in a broke world where sin rule.

The good news is that there is a cure, JESUS Christ. Father God loved the world so much that He had send His only Son to this broken world to save it from sin and death.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten (unique or beloved) Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Jesus (who is God) come to the earth as a man and showed us through His live on earth how we should love unconditionally. He died on the cross for our sins and on the third day He rose from the dead. After appearing to His disciples, He ascended to heaven. This is perfect unconditional love. Before we were born, God loved us. Jesus died for us before we confessed our sin.

1 John 4:19 We love Him because He first loved us.

We also learn in the Word that God loves everybody. There is no exception. God doesn’t have favourites. Everybody is equally important to Him. Doesn’t matter what you have done or what you didn’t do. It doesn’t matter how many times you hurt Him by sinning, He still loves you unconditionally.

Acts 10:34-35 Then Peter opened his mouth and said: In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.

While society makes distinctions among people, God’s love and grace are available for all, and can be received by anyone. We just need to accept God’s love and grace and repent of our sin.

Once we received God’s salvation, we have to live out God’s unconditional love. That is the evidence that we love God. On our one we cannot love that way, but with the help of the Holy Spirit we can do it. When we ask the Holy Spirit to help us to love unconditionally, He will help us. He will heal our brokenness and restore us in order to be able to love like God loves.

Prayer: Father God, we thank You for your unconditional love and for Jesus who died for us on the cross. Father we love you , but we need help to love the people around us as You love us. Holy Spirit we ask You to please put God’s love in our harts and help us to love unconditionally, especially the people who hurt us. Thank You for Your grace and mercy in Jesus Name. Amen
